McKone Street Residences: Two-Bedroom Apartments in Neponset with Brand-New Renovation

Three apartments – all renovated this year – are available in this Neponset-based, three-family house.  None of them have been lived in since the new construction, which included expansive exterior remodeling and the installation of all-new hardwood floors, beautiful new kitchens, and central air in each unit.   And thanks to the touch of Dorchester developer Denis Keohane, who specializes in high-end condominium projects in the area, every last square foot is finished with carefully detailed luxury.

The Apartments

You’ll quickly be able to tell that a lot of care was put into the design and style of these two-bedroom apartments.  Especially in the kitchens, which are each equipped with granite countertops, stainless appliances, a gas range, and maple cabinets.  A breakfast bar helps transition into the spacious living area, which receives ample sunlight through the bay windows.  The bedrooms lie on either side of the living room – both cable ready, both with lots of closet space.

The penthouse unit features lofted ceilings and exposed ceiling beams.  Each apartment comes with an off-street parking spot, washer/dryer hookups, and a storage closet in the basement.

The Price

$1,475/month.  First and last due up-front.

The Location

For Bostonians seeking convenience and value, Dorchester’s Neponset neighborhood has become a popular spot.  Mostly because it’s as walkable as it is drivable: it’s just steps from Neponset Circle, Pope John Paul II Park, the ocean, and the Neponset River Walk, and just seconds from Morrissey Boulevard and 93 by car.  This building, spotted on a low-traffic side-street that connects Neponset Ave with Morrissey, allows its residents to enjoy all of the convenience that Neponset offers, without being exposed to the busyness of a main road.

Walkscore rating: 75 out of 100.

Two-Floor, Three-Bed Condo in Southie for $449K $419K

In the last six months, South Boston condos have been selling for about $320/square foot.  This bi-level, 1,841-square-footer is going for $243/ft². As you can imagine, a deal like that doesn’t need to be blogged to get noticed.

Such a combination of space, style, and location is rare, especially considering the low price. The problem is, buyers already know that. Which is why interest in this unit – only on the market for a week now – is through the roof.

The Condo

Just yesterday, a delivery man walked past the front door of the building, peeked in, and marveled, “Wow, that’s a big place.”

The space and the sunlight are what strike you first as you walk in.  When it was renovated back in 2000, the designer opened everything up: the front hallway was widened to avoid that infamous, skinny-hallway look so common to Southie condos. In the foyer, a skylight was added (yes, a first-floor skylight that stretches through three stories to get to the roof). The area next to the kitchen was greatly expanded, making the living/dining/kitchen space enormous. And the back patio was converted into a tiled sun room, which exposes the whole first floor to the natural light that pours in from the south and the east.

In all: two floors (first and basement), three bedrooms, three bathrooms (two of which have Jacuzzi tubs), a deck off the sun room, and your own, private, fenced-in backyard. You’ll notice custom tiling in the foyer, sun room, and bathrooms. Little things like the wall sconces and the wooden balusters indicate that the renovators either knew a few original craftsmen, or had a lot of money to spend.

Words on a blog just aren’t enough to fully describe it (unless we were cleared to write a blovel), so make sure to stop in to see it live while you still can.

The Price

$449,000. (New Price! Now just $419,000!)

MLS#: 71150196

The Location

It doesn’t take much to figure out why South Boston has become such a popular spot for city types. It’s a highly walkable, distinct Boston neighborhood, on the water, just minutes from downtown.

This condo, on Southie’s east side, is just a block-and-a-half from the ocean. Those who work in the Financial District will love this: the 7 bus, which goes back-and-forth to Franklin Street, stops a few steps away from the front door. East Broadway’s shops, bars, and restaurants are three blocks away. A beloved coffee joint is two blocks away. You can walk around here for years and you’ll keep discovering something new and interesting. Such is life in one of Boston’s most famous neighborhoods.

Check in every Monday for the Patriot Deal of the Week

Penthouse Two-Bed with a Den on Neponset Ave: $1,300

It’s no wonder why top-floor living is so desirable.  There’s no one above you, so you never hear footsteps.  The views are top-notch.  Plus, you can’t help but feel like you’re the king of the castle.  Whatever the reason, the penthouse is the place to be.  And when you can live in one for cheap, it makes for one heck of a deal.

The Apartment

It probably works best as a two-bedroom with a den, but it could certainly work as a three-bed just as easily.  Connected to one of the bedrooms is a sunny, front-facing room with a bay window and a closet – big enough to be a bedroom itself, but better utilized as a large den or an office.  The living room abuts the kitchen, which has updated appliances and a full-size set of laundry machines.  There are two decks – one in the front overlooking Neponset Ave and a more spacious, private, and scenic one in the back.  The bathroom was recently remodeled and fitted with mahogany vanity cabinets.  There’s plenty of closet space, but there’s extra storage in the basement should you need it.

The Price

$1,300/month. Due up-front is first and last month’s rent. No broker fee.

The Location

Life on Neponset Ave. is convenient: walk to the T (.6 miles), Stop & Shop (.25 miles), Dunkin’ Donuts (.23 miles). A park/playground is right around the corner (.11 miles) for the young or the childlike.  Morrissey Boulevard – and all of its offerings – is just a block away.  Driving anywhere is easy (two 93 exits are within a mile), but going car-less is definitely an option – getting to South Station from your front door would take a grand total of 25 minutes.  Downtown Boston is just five miles away.

Walkscore rating: 80 out of 100.

The Next Step

A busy summer in the land of rentals means that low-priced units don’t last long.  So if you’re looking to move between now and September 1st, act now or forever regret your procrastination.

Editor’s update: The rent of this unit has been lowered to $1,605/month as of today! You must call soon to get it for this price.

Townhome-style Two-Bed in Secluded Community: $1,625/month

It’s hard to believe this apartment is still available.  For one, these summer months always bring out the renters – it’s simply the busiest time of year for local communities.  Second, the price alone is competitive for a luxury two-bed in the area.  With so many people looking for apartments, similar one-bedrooms in Quincy are going for $1,600/month.  Finally, there just aren’t many units like it, unless you want to touch the $2,000s for monthly rent.

If you’re in the market for a two-bed and want a steal, you gotta check this one out.

The Apartment

With two floors and 1,247 square feet of living area, this apartment offers a rare amount of space.  The first level has a squared bedroom, an attached bathroom that also connects to the common area, a full kitchen, laundry room, and a wide balcony off the living room.  A master suite occupies the second level (which is actually on the top level of a three-story building): a huge space with a double-vanity bathroom and a walk-in closet.  Additional features include central air, plenty of double-hung windows, and a pantry.

The Price

$1,625/month

The Up-front Costs

$1,000 security deposit and a $300 move-in fee

The Community

Wooded privacy is the theme here.  The three-floor, garden style buildings are spread throughout the property, which is surrounded by protected wetland.  The clubhouse and resort-style pool sit in a sunny, but hidden spot.

It’s definitely more of a driver’s community (it’s about a mile away from Exit 17 on Route 3), but a free shuttle to the Braintree T picks up passengers at the clubhouse and runs on a generous schedule during commuter hours.  It has a gated entryway, plenty of free, outdoor parking (with garages available to rent), and a fenced-off dog park.  A shopping plaza – with a Stop & Shop, bank, Dunkin’ Donuts, and more –  is just down the street from the community’s entrance.

The Next Step

Again, it’s surprising that this unit is still available and it would be even more surprising if it stayed on the market much longer.  So call Patriot today (617 436-6000) to schedule a tour before somebody else does!  Or visit our website for more great deals.
